So, we had great weather this weekend, especially for bike riding. My 2 oldest girls are in the process of learning how to ride a bike. We gave it a go last year, and got most of the basics down, but didn't quite get it by summers end. So, we figured let's head out to the pavement and give it another try.
The good news is our oldest pretty well has it figured out. Lots of running behind the bike while she peddles, turns into her going around and around in the parking lot and gaining lots of confidence. Our middle daughter was giving it a try too but isn't quite there yet.
And than, there is me.
Yes, I know how to ride a bike. But my wife Amanda has an eBike, and has been bugging me to try it out, which I refuse. So, backstory; many moons ago on a vacation to Cuba, I maybe, possibly, definitely crashed a moped and got gun-shy ever getting on another motorized 2 wheeled vehicle of any sorts again. My presumption of eBikes, were they went the exact same way a moped/motorcycle would go, and had no interest in re-experiencing that again. But finally, after agreeing to ride it on the grass in case I biffed it again, I gave it a go. I'm happy to report it is not like a moped, and my own fear of the past could at least be put to rest.
So this weekend, 3 kids practiced learning how to ride a bike. One kid was just a little older than the others. The lesson here? Irrational fears can hold you back quite a bit. That doesn't mean it'll be any easier to face them, but I feel better finally giving it a try.
