The Access Event Centre in Morden was buzzing this past weekend as fans of video games, vintage collectibles, Pokémon cards, comic books, cosplay, and more gathered for the latest edition of the Morden Pop Culture Expo. Organized by local enthusiast Trent Medynski, the two-day event offered free admission and something for everyone.

“We’ve got people coming in the door already. There was a line-up this morning,” said Medynski on Saturday. “Everybody’s ready to go. We’ve got the cotton candy ready. The icecycle treats are ready. The food trucks are ready. Let’s go!”

Free family fun at Morden's Pop Culture event

One of the biggest draws for families and casual visitors alike? It didn’t cost a thing to walk through the doors.

“There’s no fee. It is absolutely free to come in and look around, and you can play,” Medynski explained. “We have a video game tournament happening... That’s free to come into and enter. There’s prizes. We have a free Settlers of Catan tournament happening.”

With live tattoos, a Pokémon trading zone, and food trucks like Moment in Thyme and Two Bro’zz Burgers on site, the Expo had no shortage of attractions.

From small flea market to pop culture hub

Reflecting on the growth of the Expo, Medynski said, “We started very small in the Legion downtown. I still run flea markets in there from time to time, but since the pop culture thing was so popular, we brought it to this venue.”

He credited the Access Event Centre and staff for their support. “I'd like to give a shout-out to Trisha—she’s been extremely helpful—and of course all the staff there, Tim and all the maintenance workers. Everybody’s been great.”

The event will return for a one-day fall edition on September 20th, with another two-day Expo planned for spring 2026.

WV Cards brings hockey and Pokémon collectibles to the expo

Local business WV Cards from Winkler brought a unique edge to the event, giving collectors and newcomers alike the chance to grab premium cards at budget-friendly prices. Colby Wall, co-owner of the shop, introduced their popular Vault Boxes.

“These come in hockey and Pokémon,” Wall said. “You can get premium cards for a good price and get anywhere from $10 cards to $300 cards… We just want to get more cards in kids' hands and other people's hands without spending hundreds of dollars to get that card.”

Wall also shared insights on valuable rookie cards to keep an eye on: “Connor McDavid… that wouldn’t be too much of a secret. Maybe a guy like Wyatt Johnston from the Dallas Stars, Seth Jarvis—Manitoba boy from Carolina Hurricanes—Leon Draisaitl, Nathan MacKinnon. Those are great guys to collect right now.”

If you missed WV Cards at the Expo, you can still check out their shop at 254 Main Street in Winkler, just across from Valley Bakery.

“Come grab a cinnamon bun and then head over to WV,” Wall joked. “You can meet Jon or myself and we’re happy to help.”

Expo offers nostalgia, games, and collectibles in one place

Whether you came for the collectibles, the cosplay, or just to soak up the atmosphere, the Morden Pop Culture Expo proved once again why it's becoming a must-attend event in southern Manitoba. With free admission, something for every age group, and growing support from vendors and fans alike, the Expo continues to bring the region’s passion for pop culture to life—one Pokémon card, video game, and community connection at a time.
