Estevan Fire Rescue was busy throughout the mid-May season last week, with a number of calls coming in.
Beginning on May 19 at 7:20 p.m., a crew was sent to a report of a possible structure fire in the Northeast area of the city. When crews responded to the event, they determined that no emergency was occurring. Investigation placed the alarm as being caused by a cooking-related incident.
The next day, on May 20 at 5:05 PM, a crew headed off to a 2-vehicle collision in the central part of the city. Crews found that the incident was minor and assistance wasn't required at the scene.
In the early morning hours of 5:45 a.m. on May 21, a crew was called to an unknown fire occurring in the south end of the city. Crews found that a vehicle fire was occurring and quickly extinguished the fire without incident. No injuries were reported, with the cause still under investigation.
Later that day, on May 21 at 10:05 a.m., crews headed to a commercial fire alarm in the Northwest area of the city. After responding, crews found no emergency was occurring, with the alarm again being triggered due to a cooking-related incident.
Rounding out the day at 9:05 p.m., a crew was again dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in the Northeast area of the city. Once again, they found no emergency occurring, with the alarm being caused by ongoing cleaning at the location.
On May 22 at 11:47 a.m., a residential fire alarm in the Southeast area of the city saw crews respond. Once again, they found no emergency occurring with a cooking-related incident being the cause.
A couple of days later, on May 24th, another commercial fire alarm was received at 8:25 a.m. in the south end of the city. Before arriving on the scene, EFR was updated that the alarm was false, and an issue with the alarm system. The crew's response was subsequently cancelled.
The day saw one real fire as crews were dispatched at 3:40 p.m. to a grass fire south of the city. Crews responded and extinguished the fire without incident. The crew believes that a controlled burn ended up spreading, with no damage or injuries reported from the fire.
