A local pedigreed seed producer near Cadillac says the 2025 seeding season has been a successful one to date, thanks to well-timed rainfall making for ideal growing conditions.
Troy LaForge, who runs a diversified operation, says the season began with some concern about dry conditions, but recent moisture has brought optimism.
"We were getting a little drier earlier on, and we got an excellent rain here a week or two ago," LaForge said. "Moisture's excellent, and crops are coming up real nice now."
LaForge and his family manage a pedigreed seed farm and offer custom corn seeding for grain, silage, and grazing. In addition to their crop operations, they also run a cow-calf livestock operation, which keeps them busy year-round.
"My wife, my two boys, and I work together all year to get the crop in and off and all those good things," he said. "We hire a little help occasionally, but it's mostly just us."
With seeding near completion, LaForge said their main goal is what every farm hopes for: a clean, healthy crop with strong yields.
"We just want to establish a good crop, keep it clean, and have a great yield at the end of the year that we can profit from."
Farmers across the southwest Saskatchewan region will hope for similar success as the growing season progresses.
