The community continues to find creative ways to raise funds for three-year-old Brielle Thomas, with the latest effort taking place on the pool tables.
A billiards tournament will be held on June 8 at The Venue Bar & Grill, 79 E Railway St., to help purchase a cutting-edge mobility device by Trexo Robotics for Brielle.
Thanks to long-time Cochranite and professional billiards instructor Bill Gibbons, there are some enticing prizes on the line — all for a modest $20 registration fee.

Gibbons has donated a high-end Meucci pool cue, complete with an extra carbon-fibre shaft and case, valued at $1,000, for the tournament winner. Second prize is a deluxe all-leather cue carrying case valued at $200.

Only 24 players will be able to participate in the tournament, which will follow a “race to one” format with a double knockout — meaning two losses and you're out.
Gibbons has also issued a friendly challenge to Mayor Jeff Genung, proposing both donate $50 to the cause and square off in a fun match.
"Everyone benefits in helping a three-year-old walk," Gibbons wrote in a note to the mayor.
"And Jeff, please take it easy on me. I'm 82 years old and my eyesight is deteriorating."
To register, email tournament director Ken MacLean at fireandelectric247@gmail.com or call The Venue at 587-362-4283. Prepayment is required by June 5.
