Every once in a while, things just go your way. I was out on an evening Moose Cruise last night and found 7. I cruised up on two about 7:20, but they were on the wrong side of the road. My concern was, they were very close to the road, and they might flee.
I never even slowed down; I just kept going past them and took my chance. About a quarter of a mile down the road I turned around and slowly came back.
They were about 25 yards off the road in a slough with very few twigs and trees that were green except the ones closest to me. I rolled up and they started to move, but only a few steps. I was going to be shooting directly into the sun. (oh well, I'm not turning a tire) I shut everything off and started shooting. I sat there for 20 minutes photographing these two moose without another vehicle passing by.
One decided to bed down, so I took a few more shots and then decided to leave them alone. Once I started the moose wagon, they both started to move along with two other buddies back across the slough in some trees that I hadn't seen.
This time I rolled the dice and things worked out, doesn't always happen.
More photos of the moose can be seen on my McGillivray Moments Photos For You Facebook page. And stop by my Gallery in the Estevan Market Mall for a wide variety of prints.
