116 years is a long time for anything. Over a century long, it dates all the way back to 1909. It spans back to before the two World Wars, before the roaring 20’s and the Great Depression. In fact, Saskatchewan was still just a newly formed province, joining the country of Canada only four years prior. That’s just how long the Weyburn Fair Days have been in operation.
Thankfully, the 116th annual Weyburn Fair Days are not that far away. In fact, it’s just 33 days until the action gets underway at the Weyburn Agricultural Society Exhibition Grounds. Weyburn Agricultural Society President Tyler TJ Metheral talks about the fun times coming up.
“Our annual fair days are coming up and we have a whole week planned of activities Starting on June 29th with our 4H light horse show and then we move into the calf show and we have our big sale, the calf sale on Wednesday, July 2nd. Then, we move into the Fair Days with the Midway and we have the Rumble in the Ring and then Friday and Saturday, we wrap up with the Souris River Rodeo and of course Midway with all the fun food and all that kind of fun stuff.”
With so many fun activities and events going on the entire week, the Agricultural Society seeks out the help of volunteers to make it all possible. As a non-profit organization, the Weyburn Agricultural Society relies on the fantastic help of their board members as well as a plethora of volunteers to make it all possible. Metheral says anyone can help out to any level, big or small.
“We just want to put the call out there, you know, for people volunteering. We're always looking for volunteers to help out. In little ways or big ways, whoever, you know, an hour here or a couple hours is always a big help from the community and it’s certainly coming quick like it’s just a month away here.”
