A section of Main Street in Winkler is temporarily closed this week as the city undertakes curb and swales upgrades ahead of a provincial overlay project scheduled for later this summer.
The closure affects Main Street from Stanley Avenue to Mountain Avenue and is expected to remain in place until May 30.
Wendy Klassen, Assistant City Manager for Winkler, shared that the work is part of the city's preparatory obligations in coordination with Manitoba Highways and Transportation.
"We have started some curb and swale renewals on Main Street, and this is being done in advance of Highways and Transportation doing some Main Street work with the overlay that is going to be happening later in the summer."

Just one part
She continued to say that once the City has completed its curb maintenance, Manitoba Highways and Transportation will be able to proceed on their end.
"The tender is currently out... once they have filled that tender, then they'll plan for the work to get done this summer sometime."
That work involves the long-anticipated resurfacing of Main Street.
The closure and construction are anticipated to last through Friday, May 30, though the timeline may be subject to weather and work conditions.
Residents and businesses in the area are advised to use alternate routes and to stay alert for posted signage and detours while the work is underway.
