The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed May 25 to May 31, 2025, as National AccessAbility Week in partnership with Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan (SCI Saskatchewan). The week celebrates the leadership and contributions of individuals with disabilities and promotes awareness of accessibility and inclusion throughout the province.
“National AccessAbility Week is an opportunity to celebrate the many ways people with disabilities strengthen our province,” Social Services Minister Terry Jenson said. “Removing barriers for people with disabilities benefits us all. Our government has a plan to create a more inclusive Saskatchewan where everyone, regardless of ability, can fully participate in their communities.”
SCI Saskatchewan is a community-based organization that promotes independence, self-reliance and full community participation for individuals with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities. Through peer support, education, advocacy and service navigation, SCI Saskatchewan helps people overcome barriers and achieve greater inclusion and quality of life.
“Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan continues to celebrate National AccessAbility Week and acknowledges progress while recognizing there are still barriers to overcome,” said SCI Saskatchewan executive director Delynne Bortis. “Ensuring accessibility is a foundation rather than an accommodation will foster truly inclusive communities, opening the door to opportunity, dignity and full societal participation for everyone.”
On Dec. 3, 2024, the Government of Saskatchewan released its first Accessibility Plan to improve the accessibility of government services. Over the next three years, the government plans to provide leadership on accessibility and inclusion in the province; improve knowledge and awareness to support a diverse and inclusive workforce; and enhance accessibility of digital content, provincial parks and government buildings.
