The Ottawa Police have recently charged a man in relation to a human trafficking investigation, and it's believed there were victims from Calgary.
The Ottawa Police Service have charged 27-year-old Anthony Badibanga-Mukendi in relation to the ongoing human trafficking investigation, and the Ottawa Police believe there are victims across Canada, including in Calgary.
Since the Ottawa Police released the first media release about Badibanga-Mukendi being charged in relation to human trafficking and other related charges on March 20, the Ottawa Police Service Human Trafficking Unit has laid further charges on Badibanga-Mukendi, after more victims were identified.
Following the initial media release, investigators involved in the case have continued to receive information from the public in Ottawa and cities across Canada, resulting in several new individuals coming forward.
This has led to 50 additional charges being laid against Badibanga-Mukendi.
While the Ottawa Police commend the courage the victims are displaying by coming forward and contributing vital information to this investigation, detectives from their Human Trafficking Unit believe there may be even more individuals who have not yet come to speak to the police.
Badibanga-Mukendi is alleged to have used the following aliases:
- Marty
- Anton
- Tony
- Jay
- Tighten Tones
- Tones
It is believed that Badibanga-Mukendi travelled across Canada and has allegedly been involved in human trafficking for several years, and on top of the allegations related to Human Trafficking offences, it is alleged that Badibanga-Mukendi has perpetrated acts of intimate partner violence, fraud, and other criminal offences.
The Ottawa Police Service respects the victim's decision regarding whether to pursue criminal charges and can provide support resources regardless of their choice.
