The City of Portage la Prairie is rolling ahead with its annual street line painting program this week, and local drivers are asked to take extra care while crews are on the roads.

The work is expected to take five to seven days to complete, with crews operating daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The goal is to freshen up road markings across the city to help improve safety and visibility for drivers.

Stay back and let the paint dry

City councillor Faron Nicholls says it’s a simple request that goes a long way.

“If we could just give them 50 feet, let that paint dry, keep our workers safe that would be great,” notes Nicholls.

Nicholls remarks that the program may not seem like much, but its impact on road safety is noticeable.

“It’s amazing what a clean and a sweep and painted line does to keeping people in their lanes and safety and knowing where to stop,” he adds.

Newly painted lines like these ones on 8th St. NW have been appearing all over the city. Many crosswalks are being repainted as well.
