The Weyburn Police Service received a call at 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 24th, of someone driving a vehicle through Elks Park, which was caught on video by a witness.
"We were actually able to obtain a video of it, which helped us identify that vehicle and the driver of the vehicle. We were ultimately able to locate that driver and speak with them, and they were charged under the City of Weyburn Bylaw for operating a motor vehicle in a parkway," shared Sergeant Riley Ross.
"There's a specific bylaw for the City of Weyburn that says that no motor vehicle can be driven on any boulevard, park, or playground within the city limits, and for a first offense that fine carries a $100 fine."
Ross noted the driver was issued multiple tickets, but other charges could have been laid if damage had been done in the park.
"Our members investigated that complaint and determined that there was no damage to the property. Elks Park, but had there have been any damage to say the ground or trees or any of the structures there, we would entered into a mischief investigation and potential charges for mischief would have been laid."
