“Your health is your most valuable asset.”

Dr. Daniel Chenier, the man behind the eponymous Dr. Daniel V. Chenier Chiropractor & Wellness Centre in Winnipeg, is accepting new patients.

“The focus in my practice is on adjusting the spine, which a lot of people do,” Chenier says. “But my focus is on adjusting the spine in order to optimize the function of the nervous system, that communication between the brain and the body.”

Chenier prescribes to the belief of reorganizational healing, which differs from restorative healing in the sense that it addresses the underlying issue rather than the symptom. While restorative measures often have the goal of returning to life as it was before the symptom showed up, reorganizational measures address the issue as a whole in hopes of leading into a lifestyle that is even better and healthier than it was before.

“The idea is that there may be some other changes that need to happen,” Chenier explains. “So let’s get to the bottom of things- let’s really get to the root of things!”

When taking the reorganizational route, Chenier says that symptoms mean that the individual needs to do three things- stop, take inventory, and do something different.

“Normally we don’t like to stop, otherwise we would have already done this step. A symptom forces us to halt. The second thing- I recommend that people take inventory, or just take notice of what’s really going on. And then thirdly, to do something different- what do I need to change in my lifestyle, perhaps?”

A common example of reorganizational healing is clients who say they are actively working on their posture. Chenier says that posture is under the body’s unconscious control through the nervous system, and that his solution is to optimize the central nervous system through adjustment and realignment.

“People get off the table and they literally tell me that they feel a couple of inches taller, or that they get back in their vehicle and feel that they’ll need to adjust the mirror and seat positions, because it feels like someone else has been sitting in there.”

A self-proclaimed geek for nutrition, exercise strategies, and biohacking, Chenier is always actively searching for ways to keep himself and his patients healthy, strong, and vibrant. He acknowledges that healthy lifestyle choices aren’t one and done, and working with Dr. Chenier involves repeat appointments.

“It’s not like you’re just going to go to the gym once and expect to have a six pack, or eat one healthy meal and expect your arteries to be nice and clear- you’re going to have to work at it.”

Chenier recognizes that many people may be skeptical about chiropractic care, but assures anyone that may be sitting on the fence that his services are both light and nonlinear. He notes that every person that comes through his door will be assessed as an individual- there is no strict plan that needs to be followed, and the big picture is always top of mind. He also applies very light amounts of force during adjustment appointments- a necessity in a field where everyone from newborns to the elderly are cared for.
