A pre-alert evacuation notice has been issued for the City of Flin Flon as a wildfire draws close to the community.
The northern Manitoba city issued the alert at 7:40 p.m. after a fire broke out nearby.
The city says the pre-alert was issued due to the dry conditions and the proximity of the fires.
Residents are encouraged to be prepared and ready to act if an evacuation is called. They say it could occur on short notice if the situation escalates.
Emergency services in town suggest residents fuel their vehicles and prepare an emergency kit that includes prescription medication, important documents such as passports and birth certificates, laptops and other valuables.
As of late Tuesday, the fire was still out of control and had grown to 1,000 hectares.
Should the situation escalate, an evacuation centre will be set up and details will be provided.
The Manitoba Wildfire Service continues to respond to 18 active wildfires across the province, a total of 96 wildfires to date, well above the average for this time of year of 77 total fires.
