Southland Church has shared an encouraging update as wildfires continue to burn dangerously close, just one kilometre from the Bird River Bible Camp property.
In a video posted on social media, Southland Church Lead Pastor Stefan Duerksen gives a praise report.
"The camp is standing. We have blue skies at the camp," said Duerksen. "We have green grass. We have trees and buildings. Everything looks perfect, and for that, we need to praise the Lord. That is a huge miracle. We are very grateful for that."
However, Duerksen says there is still a huge need for prayer.
"The fire continues to be rated as out of control, and as of Sunday, we were told there are fires within a kilometre of the camp."
He says those fires are contained, but as long as there are fires in the area, they cannot get into camp.
"The roads are closed so we can't get to camp, but we not only need to get to camp, we need to get it up and get it ready, and we're almost in June."
Tonight the church is hosting a prayer summit. They are also going to call a church wide fast, hoping to intercede and ask God to move on their behalf.
"We have some really big needs. One, we need rain. We need those roads to open, that's two, and then we need to be able to get in there with enough time to test the water and get everything ready."
The Prayer Summit goes from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Southland Church in Steinbach.
A camp clean up has also been planned for June 21, and anyone interested in helping out is encouraged to show up.
