The Southeast Homeschool community took advantage of sunny weather this week to host its second annual track and field meet, drawing students from across the region.

The event, now in its second year, saw significant growth in participation, with attendance rising from about 85 students last year to approximately 115 this year. Students from Estevan, Weyburn, Radville and surrounding areas took part.

“Last year was our first time, and we had no idea what kind of numbers to expect,” said one of the organizers. “We ended up with around 85 kids. This year, we had about 115, but everything went really well.”

She said the experience gained from organizing the inaugural event made this year’s meet smoother.

“It was a lot smoother than last year just because we’d already done it once. There weren’t really any hitches.”

The meet provided a rare opportunity for home-schooled students to gather in one place and connect with their peers through physical activity and friendly competition.

Looking ahead, organizers hope to continue building on the event’s momentum.

“Maybe next year we’ll just look at adding a few more volunteers and getting more kids involved.”
