The Cochrane Activettes continue to show their love for the community, from the youngest residents to seniors.

This week, the group presented an $11,500 donation that will allow residents to enjoy the spray park free of charge for the entire season. They've also helped establish a small play area for young children in the foyer of the Jayman BUILT Aquatic Centre.

Activettes president Sue Lunin said they are grateful to provide the sponsorship and to partner with the Spray Lake Sawmills Centre.

“We try to reach as many families in the community as we possibly can, and we do that through organizations in Cochrane and area,” said Lunin. “We’re just absolutely thrilled that we can help out in these areas.”

“The splash park is such a fun area. It’s so well used—there are kids everywhere—and it helps parents and grandparents too, so everyone can come and enjoy free access.”

She said the indoor play equipment is sturdy, well-designed, and cleaned thoroughly each day.

Most of the funding for these community initiatives comes from the Activettes’ nonprofit gently used clothing store, The Clothesline, located in Unit 5 at 122 4 Ave. W. Lunin said they’re thankful for everyone who donates clothing, as well as the staff, club members and volunteers who make it all possible.

Chelsea Moroz-Mason, corporate sponsorship coordinator for the SLS Centre, said the support from the Activettes is “absolutely incredible.”

“The spray park donation is going to allow all the kids in Cochrane to come and experience the spray park all summer without having to pay,” she said. “The Cochrane Activettes have really stepped up.”

With warm weather now here, the spray park is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting, for all ages to enjoy.

This week’s sunny conditions drew several families to the park during the official photo opportunity.

“You can see just how busy it is here right now,” said Moroz-Mason, pointing to families enjoying the area. “It’s used on every hot day, and families can come and spend as much time as they want—have a picnic, relax. It’s all here.”

For five years prior to this season, free access to the spray park was made possible by Bow RiversEdge Campground.
