In the weekly report from the Weyburn Police Service, an update was provided on an ongoing investigation that followed a reported break-and-enter on August 12th, 2024, wherein numerous items were reported stolen, including firearms, jewelry, Canadian currency, and game cameras.

"As part of that investigation, our Forensic Identification Unit assisted with that and obtained fingerprints and DNA evidence. Through that, along with a few other tips throughout the past year, we were able to identify two suspects and lay charges in that investigation," shared Sergeant Riley Ross.

On September 10th, 2024, police were contacted by a local business regarding suspicious jewelry brought in by a customer, as several items matched descriptions from the break-and-enter.

"The business owner was smart enough to catch on that this property was likely stolen, and they advised us, and that played a big part in the successful outcome of our investigation."

This evidence led investigators to a suspect who was arrested during a traffic stop. A subsequent search warrant at the suspect’s home resulted in the recovery of several stolen items. Further investigation revealed the involvement of a second person.

Then, on May 5th, 2025, both suspects were located in Weyburn, arrested, and charged with multiple criminal offenses. They have since been released by the courts.

Ross noted they were only able to recover some of the property.

"There is still outstanding property in that investigation, so if anyone does have any leads or information in regards to this break-and-enter, we still would ask the public to help us out with that because there still are outstanding items and evidence that we have yet to recover."
