Foothills County's Fire Advisory has been upgraded to a Fire Restriction, effective May 28, 2025.

The County cited this week's conditions and upcoming forecasts, with temperatures in the mid-to-high 20s along with wind gusts.

"Although green-up is happening and we’ve had spots of rain, there are many areas of flammable, dead, and dry vegetation exposed," the County's Fire Restriction notice states.

During the restriction, permits will not be issued for Class 1 and Class 2 fires, and outstanding permits are cancelled.

A wide range of fires are still permitted under the restriction, including safe residential fire pits, safe campfires in campgrounds, wood pellet smokers, gas or propane stoves, and charcoal briquette and solid fuel barbecues.

The County is asking residents to be extra vigilant with fires and to soak the area adjacent to open fire pits with water.

Officials say they will continue to monitor conditions and may declare a Fire Ban at any time.

The Fire Advisory does not apply to Okotoks or High River, and neither town currently has any fire restrictions in place.

Up-to-date information on fire bans can be seen on the Alberta Fire Bans website.
