A Sunday stroll that can help raise funds for the equipment and fixtures for a new care home in Humboldt.

It’s all a part of the “Build a Home” Walk with Residents at the St. Mary’s Villa on Sunday, June 8.

Beginning at 11:00 am, participants and residents will begin the walk at the corner of 11th Avenue and 14th Street and will walk down to 12th Avenue and walk towards Highway #20 and then head back to the villa.

Following the walk, there will be a Hamburger Sale hosted by the CO-OP and the Lions Club at 12:00.

Entertainment begins at 12:30 and that will be provided by Jackie Guy, who is a five-time nominee for the Saskatchewan Country Music Association Awards.

The Villa’s Recreation Yard Sale is also happening on the weekend of June 6-8. It will take place at the Outer Gazebo Courtyard at the corner of 11th Avenue and 14th Street. The yard sale will operate the same hours each day from 8am-5pm. There will be a special treat on Saturday (June 7) as fresh baked Elephant Ears will be sold with the proceeds going towards the Recreation Programming at the Villa.

Executive Director Donna Muench says fundraising work continues for a new facility, noting they’ve surpassed their initial goal of $1,000,000.

“Our goal at this moment is to raise $5,000,000 and that is just for the equipment and fixtures.”

She’s hopeful for further details to be announced for a new care home in Humboldt in the near future.

“We are doing a lot of behind the scenes work to try and push the official announcement.

Which is what we're really waiting for. We know one's coming, but we haven't got the official announcement.”

Along with raising funds for the new care home, Muench noted the walk is a wonderful opportunity for residents to enjoy an event outdoors

“The residents actually really look forward to it, "she said, “we have volunteers, and they come out and push the residents along our walk for as long as they want.

You don't have to do the full walk. You could do it partially, but they enjoy it, and they enjoy the entertainment and seeing family and friends gather for the afternoon.”

If you’re interested in participating in the fundraising walk, you can stop by Villa Foundation or Admin Office for a pledge sheet.

There’s also a QR Code available to donate, or you can just show up to the Hamburger sale and make an in person donation.

If you’re planning on sticking around and listening to Guy’s performance, it’s recommended to bring a lawn chair so you can enjoy the concert comfortably.
