After more than five inches of rain delayed the start of the season, Grant Palmer of Palmer Enterprises Corp. and his crew are back in the field and pushing to finish seeding by the end of the week.

“It’s going good,” Palmer said. “We got back at it Monday and hope to wrap up by Sunday night.”

Long days are the norm. His son runs the drill from daybreak until 9 p.m., while others handle spraying and harrowing. This year, they’re planting canola, durum and spring wheat.

Thanks to the rain, soil moisture is looking strong. “It was a nice soaking rain,” he said. “But Mother Nature decides what harvest will look like.”

With a full day’s work ahead, the Seed and Feed lunch was a welcome break. “When someone brings food to the field, it’s really appreciated,” Palmer said. “Thanks to all the sponsors involved.”

“That’s what it’s all about, from the field to the shelf.”

Thanks to the Seed N Feed sponsors who help keep our farmers going, one meal at a time and acre at a time.
