Winkler's Mayor is reminding city residents, who count a four-legged friend as a member of their family, about the importance of cleaning up after them.
"We have a lot of animals in our community, and people are generally quite good when they're taking them for walks and cleaning up after them," started Mayor Henry Siemens. "But there are times when people forget, or don't feel like it, and it's horribly frustrating for those people who are walking afterwards and either step in it or run into it."
Take your dog for a walk, but keep the city clean
"We just want to ask people, if you're taking your dog out, please do so, it's beautiful outside and our furry friends love being out as much as we do, but we ask you to clean up after yourself," he added.
Siemens noted, the City is addressing the need for more garbage cans.
"We know that every year, when we say this, people come back and say, 'Well, there's not enough garbage cans,'" he stated. "We want to say every year we add about four additional garbage cans along our path and trail network. By the time we're done, we're going to have something every 250 meters, or so, along wherever we are going to be moving."
With that said, the Mayor added it will take some time to get to that goal.
"We have miles of pathway in our community, so we ask you carry it with you, for now, if you happen to be on a pathway where there's not as many, yet."
