Construction progress on the new hospital in Weyburn is now at 75 per cent complete, according to an announcement from the provincial government last week.

Board chair for the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation, Jeff Hayward, recently got to take a tour of the facility.

"This work being done is fantastic for this community. It's a really large modern facility. You see a lot of the stuff that goes into it. It's going to be a very modern-day facility. Probably one of the the most modern ones in the province, which is really great for Weyburn. It's not like the old days, it's all new stuff in there. Big wide rooms, nice windows and stuff. It's going to be a fantastic facility."

Hayward said they have some fundraisers planned with no details yet to announce, but the hospital is on track to open next summer.

"Once the new facility is built, our goal will always be to make sure it has not just a modern facility, but the most up-to-date modern equipment, and help fundraise for that to make sure that equipment stays top-notch for the residents of the Weyburn area."

The WDHF will host their annual general meeting on June 18th at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at the Weyburn Credit Union.
