If you’ve seen flashing lights and a large group of motorbikes moving through Calgary, it's all part of preparations for the upcoming G7 Summit, and that motorcade is making its way to Cochrane next week.
Training exercises for the high-security event are currently underway, with teams from Calgary Police, RCMP, Alberta Sheriffs, and Edmonton Police working together to prepare. While most of the drills have been taking place in Calgary, the operation will expand its reach starting next week, with planned motorcade routes passing through Cochrane, Airdrie, Okotoks, and eventually Kananaskis.
Each motorcade can involve up to 40 vehicles and more than 50 police motorcycles, creating a significant presence on local roads. Residents can expect to see increased law enforcement activity and brief traffic disruptions between June 14 and 18, with training continuing until then.

Officials are urging drivers to stay alert, follow instructions from police, and avoid pulling over to film or photograph the motorcade, as it poses safety risks.
The drills typically run between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., so motorists in Cochrane should plan accordingly and allow for extra travel time during that window.
