So, I'm playing slo-pitch this year for the first time in many years. In the first game of the season, I had a couple poor hits, and a bobbled ball in the outfield. And I was mad at myself. Than the next game, I hurt my quads(both) running. Which, if that isn't a tell-tale sign that you're beginning to age, I don't know what is. Our team played again last night, and in the 2 weeks we had off from ball, I did a little soul searching as to why I'm even playing.
I'm not trying to regain some old glory from the past. I'm not expecting to be up to par as to where I used to be. I'm not even looking to be the best, or even middle of the pack player on a team. Simply, I'm just out to have fun.
The fact that I can still go out and play, and have a great time doing it says a lot. Our team lost last night, but I wasn't overly concerned with that. I had a smile on my face through the game, I visited and joked with the opposition when they came by. I just had fun. And whether I get 2 hits, 4 hits or strike out at every at bat, just enjoying my time out there has been a blessing in itself. I may be sore this morning, but it's a soreness born out of doing something I've always loved, so I'll take it.
Now hopefully our team captain doesn't see that I'm not concerned with winning. My slo-pitch return may be short lived than...
