As thousands of wildfire evacuees arrive in Winnipeg, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs and the First Nations Family Advocate Office have teamed up to collect much-needed items for families.
To do this, they have organized a donation drive.
"We are collecting new or gently used, clean items to help provide comfort and basic necessities to families who have been displaced and are facing uncertainty during this difficult time," said the First Nations Family Advocate Office. "Many have left their homes with just the clothes on their backs."
All donations will directly support the children, youth, parents, and elders who left their homes with little to no belongings.
Some of the items they are looking for include:
- Adult clothing in all sizes
- Children's and youth clothing in all sizes
- Baby care supplies, such as diapers, wipes, formula, strollers and high chairs
- Underwear and socks in all sizes
- Feminine hygiene products
- Phone chargers and power banks
- Notebooks and pens
- Books, games and puzzles
- Family-friendly recreation passes to museums, pools, zoo, etc.
Donations can be dropped off at 200-286 Smith Street, Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
"We thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity as we come together to support our First Nations families in need."
