The third book in the Kids Visit the World series is being launched on June 1 by Cochrane author Candy Weisner and illustrator Jessica Ingard.

The pair has teamed up once again to explore Canada through the eyes of a young boy in the illustrated children’s book Jacob Visits Canada—just in time for Canada Day, summer reading, and the Stanley Cup finals.

"Jacob Visits Canada" follows the same theme as the other books in the Kids Visit the World series, where children can learn and discover many amazing facts about each country visited, explained Weisner.

“Jacob has a pretty big trip ahead of him because Canada is the largest country that Kids Visit the World has visited so far,” said Weisner. “He starts on Vancouver Island and travels all the way across to the Atlantic provinces, hitting every territory up north as well.”

Each province and territory in the book has its own unique things to see, foods to taste, and birds and animals to look for, she said.

As with the first two books in the series, the latest edition includes a recipe for children to try making with an adult, colouring pages, and other interactive features that appeal to a wide range of ages.

Jacob is Weisner’s 2½-year-old grandson, and his adventure follows in the footsteps of his older sisters. The first book, Isabelle Visits Peru, was released last August, and Sophie Visits the Philippines followed in December.

Like his sisters, Jacob will be seen travelling with his very own special companion—a hockey stick. Children can try to spot “Hockey Stick Buddy” in each scene.

“Hockey Stick Buddy is going to make it across Canada, and as with the other books, you have to find it in the illustrations. A little stuffed animal is easier to spot—Hockey Stick Buddy is a challenge!”

Readers can also search for the Canadian flag throughout the book.

RELATED STORIES

Unlike the previous two launches, this one is being held in the Edmonton area, where young Jacob resides. He’ll be there in person, along with Hockey Stick Buddy. His sisters, Isabelle (from the Peru visit) and Sophie (from the Philippines visit), will also be there to help the little guy out.

The new book can be purchased directly through Weisner by contacting her at kidsvisittheworld@gmail.com or on Amazon.ca.

Weisner added that people can also inquire about interactive readings via that email address.
