From hotel bookings and restaurant traffic to raffle tables and retail sales, Estevan’s busy summer of sporting events is more than just fun and games — it’s an economic driver. Community Development Officer Becca Foord with the Estevan Economic Development Board joined us to talk about the link between local sports and a thriving local economy, breaking down the surprising impact these events have on businesses of all sizes. With provincial championships, major camps, and hundreds of visiting athletes on the horizon, this summer is shaping up to be a win for everyone.

"I think talking about sports and economic development is something that people are like, 'What? Those two don't have anything to do with each other!' But it's actually insane how much they have to do with each other. Just think about the registration you pay for your sports, the equipment you buy — if you buy it locally — the jerseys you buy. They're made locally and they're printed locally. Just the impact of money that's going into our economy from sports is absolutely incredible in this community."
— Becca Foord, Estevan Economic Development Board
