Two youths are in custody after breaking into a vehicle and two stores at CF Polo Park and spraying security guards with bear spray.
Winnipeg police say the incident happened on Sunday at around 9 a.m.
Officers say an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old boy broke into a truck parked on the surface lot at the mall. A witness confronted the pair, and they ran into the mall. Once inside, the boys broke into a store, pried open several drawers and stole a laptop. From there, they forced their way into a second store and tried to break open a cash box. They were confronted by several security guards, whom they sprayed with bear spray before trying to flee.
Winnipeg police arrived on the scene and found the pair near an entrance to the mall and arrested them.
The 18-year-old has been charged with 18 offences related to weapons, break-and-enter, and breaches of court orders. He also had five outstanding warrants for court breaches. He remains in custody.
The 15-year-old has also been charged with 18 offences related to weapons, break-and-enter, breaching court orders, and a warrant for suspension of his Conditional Supervision. He also remains in custody.
