A ministry in Winnipeg that caters to people who feel like they've never fit in at church is moving.

Risen Son Church, which was located on Machray Avenue in the North End, will host its first service in its new location on Chevrier Boulevard in the south end this Sunday.

"The existing church there is Soul Sanctuary Church, and they already are a place where people come for refuge and to be restored and rejuvenated," said lead pastor Paul Winter. "That's kind of their motto and their theme, and it fits right in with what we are doing, where we're looking for folks that maybe never felt like they sort of fit in in mainstream church."

He says they are excited to invite an entirely new crowd to their church.

"We see a lot of motorcyclists in that area," said Paul. "We see a lot of bike riders, so we are excited to kind of reach out into a new area, and kind of have a reboot."

Paul says they met for years at Zion Apostolic Church, and the building was in disrepair and was about to close, which led to the move. He says even though they will be in a new neighbourhood, they will continue to minister to those living in the North End.

"We partner with another church in the area, Living Word Temple, and they continue to have food banks and minister to the community," said Paul. "We actually moved our food bank into that church so that we can continue the North End work we do."

The first service in their new building at 2050 Chevrier Boulevard will take place on Sunday, June 1, at 6 p.m. They are also hosting a BBQ ahead of the service at 5 p.m. to answer questions and get to know the community.
