A special air quality statement has been issued for many areas of the province, including the Humboldt region

Wildfire smoke from both Northern Saskatchewan and Northern Alberta has caused poor air quality and localized reductions in visibility.

The smoke swooped in the Humboldt area late Friday morning and is expected to remain in the area throughout the day. It’s possible the statement may be upgraded to an air quality warning at some point.

It’s recommended to limit your time outdoors. You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches, or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains, or severe cough.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.
