With the arrival of warm weather, the City of Weyburn is officially entering summer mode. Several seasonal facilities and programs are now open or set to launch in the coming weeks, providing numerous opportunities for residents to get outside and stay active.
“Our spray parks are open at River Park and Don Mitchell Park, and we encourage everyone to check them out,” said Paige Tenbult, Communications Coordinator for the City of Weyburn. “It’s the perfect way to enjoy the summer feel, especially now that the weather is warm.”
The spray parks operate daily but shut off at 9 p.m., allowing families to enjoy them throughout the day and early evening. Don Mitchell Park is also home to the Young Fellows Paddling Pool, another popular attraction for younger children. That facility is set to open June 16th, weather permitting.
In addition to the aquatic options, Don Mitchell Park features a basketball court, jungle gym, and green space, making it a popular hub for family outings.
For those looking to stay active beyond the parks, the Weyburn Leisure Centre's outdoor pool has been opened for the season, although it is currently closed due to the air quality. offering swimming lessons from June to July. There are also open swim events scheduled, and a number of people take advantage of the lane swim that is offered.
Families looking for daytime activities for their children can take advantage of two summer camp programs, the Summer Fun Zone and the Credit Union Spark Centre Summer Camp. Both are weekly day camps for kids aged 6 to 12, running from early July through to the end of August.
“Each week has a different theme,” explained Tenbult. “It’s a great way for kids to burn off some energy, stay active, and interact with others throughout the summer.”
Registration for all summer programs, including swimming lessons and day camps, can be found at weyburn.ca/xplor.
