Attendees gathered to celebrate Asian Heritage Month at a festival held by Asia Connect MB on the University of Manitoba campus.
Asia Connect MB, a student-led festival, had several student groups, vendors, and food trucks on-site participating in the festivities. Student groups such as the University of Manitoba Filipino Student Association, UMFSA, were involved in organizing the festival.
As well, there were cultural performances such as dance and music for people to enjoy.
Danritch Balute, an organizer of Asia Connect MB and co-president of the UMFSA, spoke about the history of the festival. " Asia Connect was inspired by Jen Chen when she passed the bill, 212, about the Asian Heritage Month Celebration as a bill in the Manitoba Legislature."
He continued, " With the momentum, we students have concluded that we should organize something big to celebrate Asian culture, therefore, we created Asia Connect. With the help of the sponsors, MLAs, student organizers, and volunteers, we've managed to organize something bigger for the future to come."
Speaking about how people can remain involved and support Asian Heritage Month, Pauline, the outreach coordinator for Asia Connect MB, said, " I would encourage people to attend more cultural exchange events and support your local Asian community."
Asia Connect MB was a celebration of heritage, community, and the achievements of the Asian Community in Manitoba.
