The 18U AA Weyburn Beavers were at home Saturday afternoon, braving the smoky conditions to take on the North Battleford Beavers at Tom Laing Park in a double header. The two teams would exchange wins, with North Battleford taking the first game 6-4, and Weyburn the second 3-1.
The first game would see the visitors put up five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead, and they held on for the victory.
Weyburn would see some solid performances at the plate, combining for 10 hits. Jarret Hayward, Morgan Lacoste, and Isaac MacKay all had doubles in the loss, while Justin Whitrow tore up the basepaths with a pair of stolen bases.
On the mound, Noah Bourassa got the start. He would give up four runs, none earned, over 4 2/3 innings, while striking out five. Whitrow pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, striking out two and allowing two earned runs.
The second game would see strong pitching performances from Weyburn, with a shutout ending in the seventh inning as they held on for the win. Whitrow had the start on the mound and went 4 2/3 innings, striking out three and allowing two hits. Lacoste would finish the game off, striking out two and allowing just one run.
At the dish, MacKay would hit another double. On the basepaths, though, Weyburn again showed speed and aggressive baserunning. Hayward would record two steals, including stealing home on a double-steal in the third inning. Bourassa would also finish the day with two stolen bases, as would Lacoste. The other Weyburn players who were credited with stolen bases were Whitrow, MacKay, and Keran Seitz.
The 18U AA Beavers are back in action Wednesday, when they travel down Highway 39 to take on the Brewers in Estevan.
