So, this morning I got a notification on my cell phone, there was an update available. A new operating system for my Samsung was ready, so you bet! Let's download it. Then we can experiment with all the cool new features, new fresh look, advancements, etc. Then I update the phone. Then my icons change colors. The weather app is smaller, so now I have to squint to see the forecast(ok, not that bad...but it's close). They moved things on me. I don't like it.
Now, when folks come in on the morning show, I try to snap photos of everyone so we can put them on our social media channels. Well, apparently this update also changed where I find the different photo sizes(1:1, 3:4 and so on) when I try to take a picture. So much so, that I need help from a co-worker to find them(thanks Kendall). If you want to feel like you're aging, it doesn't come any faster than asking younger people for help with new technology.
So am I just resistant to change? Or is it that when I don't understand or get the new technology, I feel bad and don't want to admit it. Probably a little of both. I eat the same thing for breakfast everyday. My daily routine is fairly scheduled, and when it's altered it's throws me off. So there's probably a part of me that, while yes I enjoy things the way I'm used to them, is also aware and unexcited that new things come to me a little more difficultly than they used to.
So now, I'll probably spend a part of the afternoon going through the phone, and figuring out what has changed, what I can no longer find, and switching whatever I can back to what it was before the update. All of this just makes me think of the episode of The Office where they talked about agism. I guess I'm going to have to get cooler and more hip to fit in with the new technology. You catchin' my Wi-Fi or naw?
