As the weather warms and the city shifts into summer mode, one unmistakable sign of the season is the greenery appearing throughout Weyburn, particularly in the heart of the community.

Two popular initiatives, the Adopt-A-Planter Program and the Community Gardens near Heritage Village, are once again bringing colour and vibrancy to the city.

“The Adopt-A-Planter Program, which is downtown, and then also the Community Gardens, which is up over on the hill by Heritage Village—both of those are very popular,” said Paige Tenbult, Communications Co-ordinator for the City of Weyburn. “The Community Gardens actually has a pretty massive wait list itself.”

While the city encourages everyone to enjoy the floral displays and cultivated garden plots, Tenbult also offered a reminder about respectful use.

“Really, we just want to ask people, respect them,” she said. “Please don’t go pulling anything from them. The responsibility for the maintenance of them is from the sort of owners of the planters and the Community Garden plots.”

“They’re just a lovely addition to downtown, and especially up by Heritage Village,” Tenbult noted. “It’s incredible to see the green thumb work of our community, and to help brighten up around the city.”
