The Family Place is marking a major milestone this week, 30 years of supporting families in the community.
To celebrate, the organization is hosting a special anniversary event on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 744 McLelland Street. The celebration is a come-and-go event, open to all, with plenty of activities for both kids and adults.
“We are beyond excited to host a celebration,” said Dawn Gutzke, Executive Director of The Family Place. “We’re hoping that people can slip away from work on their lunch breaks and come down. We’re going to have a barbecue, burgers and hot dogs, a petting zoo for the kids, bouncy houses, and tons of activities.”
The event also includes snacks and games, all part of a family-friendly afternoon recognizing three decades of impact in the Weyburn area. Gutzke emphasized the importance of community support throughout their history.
“The community has been such a huge part of who we are and where we are today,” she said. “We just really want to celebrate with people who’ve helped us grow over the years.”
Looking back over three decades, Gutzke reflected on the number of lives touched by The Family Place.
“To be able to serve our community, thousands of families and children over the years — what an accomplishment for our community,” she said.
The Family Place first opened in 1995 at 24 4th Street with a goal of providing quality support for families in Weyburn regardless of cultural, social, and economic lines. Shortly after opening on 4th Street, they relocated to the Souris Valley Hospital, where they had a 20,000 square foot space. In 2005, they purchased their original location and moved back to 4th Street. Starting to outgrow their space, The Family Place then purchased a new facility on McClelland Street. The grand opening of the new facility at 744 McLelland Street was on September 29th, 2023.
During the event on Tuesday, those attending will be able to purchase their tickets for the 50/50 For Kids, presented by Don's Plumbing and Heating.
