Newcomers can get in free to this Wednesday night's Weyburn Beavers game, as it's 'Newcomers Night', sponsored by Nexans Weyburn.
"I've got lots of tickets if anybody wants any," shared Settlement Advisor with Southeast Advocates, Helen Crocombe.
She said anyone new to Canada who wants to attend can pick up tickets at the Southeast Advocates office on Second Street.
Nexans Weyburn will have people on site volunteering to collect items during the game as the Beavers host the Moose Jaw Miller Express, with the first pitch at 7 p.m. at Tom Laing Park.
Crocombe said, "We're collecting donations in the form of any sort of household items, warm winter clothing that's lightly used that nobody fits anymore, and cash donations are also welcome."
She pointed out some newcomers arrive with only a suitcase of clothing. Their office will compile the donations, which will be distributed on a specific-request basis.
"Winter clothing is the biggest thing we find that nobody has when they arrive because nobody is prepared for a Saskatchewan winter, right? So that's the biggest hurdle we find, and any household goods are always welcome for somebody who has come fresh here with a suitcase and they've got nothing, so it helps them set up."
For those who can't make the game but would like to contribute items, donations are also being collected at the game by Nexans, as well as in advance at 1770 East Avenue between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
