Horizon School Division is set to host two major career exploration events this June at the Humboldt Uniplex, bringing together more than 1,160 students along with educators, trustees, and industry professionals. The events aim to connect students with real-world career pathways through interactive, hands-on learning experiences.

The first of the two events, Student Agriculture Day, will take place on Tuesday, June 10, welcoming approximately 590 Grade 10 students from schools across the division. Saskatchewan’s Minister of Agriculture, The Honourable Daryl Harrison, is slated to attend and offer opening remarks.

The following day, Wednesday, June 11, the spotlight will shift to the province’s mining industry with Student Mining Day, which will engage around 575 Grade 11 students in exploring careers in Saskatchewan’s robust mining sector.

“These events empower our students to think about their futures, build career awareness, and develop a stronger understanding of the land and communities they call home,” said Kevin C. Garinger, Director of Education for Horizon School Division. “We are proud to create opportunities where students can connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.”

Supported by a wide range of industry partners, both events will feature interactive exhibits, demonstrations, and opportunities for students to engage directly with professionals in agriculture and mining. Topics such as sustainability and the role of industry in shaping local communities will also be key themes.

Horizon’s Indigenous Education Team will play a key role during Agriculture Day, offering sessions that highlight Indigenous perspectives on land stewardship, food production, and Treaty relationships. These teachings aim to deepen students’ appreciation of agriculture and its cultural significance.

The two-day initiative reflects Horizon School Division’s commitment to preparing students for life beyond the classroom by offering meaningful engagement with Saskatchewan’s economic drivers.
