A successful Day of Caring and big plans for Telethon #49 have the Estevan United Way off to a strong start in 2025. Executive Director Heidi Hesselink joined the SUN 102 morning show to reflect on the energy and community involvement during Day of Caring and to share what’s coming next — including Estevan’s longest-running annual fundraiser.
Over 150 volunteers — plus hundreds more students from local schools — took part in the May event, completing more than 40 projects across the community. With the telethon set for October, United Way will now shift focus to rallying support for the member agencies that benefit year-round from local generosity.
"We actually had more individual volunteers this year than ever before. But we also had 18 businesses send teams, plus some community groups. Spruce Ridge had 350 students and staff out working, and ECS had between 100 and 120. It was very exciting." — Heidi Hesselink, Executive Director, United Way Estevan
