Chinook’s Edge School Division said goodbye to Superintendent Kurt Sacher.
He retired at the end of May after 15 years of service as the division’s Superintendent.
At a special event on May 21, school and division administrators, school board trustees, and division office staff came together to reflect on Sacher’s impact and express their appreciation for his contributions.
Shawn Russell, Associate Superintendent, says, “The celebration of Kurt highlighted the many ways that he has had a lasting impact on the Division. I was honoured to be part of celebrating both Kurt's career and Kurt as a person."
Another Associate Superintendent, Karyn Barber, also values Sacher's legacy.
“Kurt fostered a positive culture throughout the division, ensuring that energies are focused on success for all students. Being a part of Chinook's Edge School Division means that you are a valued staff member, appreciated for the efforts made to serve students and their families.”
Sacher shared that he appreciated the celebration.
“I was touched and deeply honoured that people took the time to celebrate with me in the way they did. Thank you to everyone who has shared their appreciation and best wishes with me,” said Sacher. "I have thoroughly enjoyed looking back at all we have accomplished together through both the amazing times and the difficult times. It has always been a privilege to be the Superintendent in Chinook’s Edge over the last 15 years. I will forever be honoured to have my name connected to the incredible people who work in such a caring school division where relationships matter at every level.”
The Central Office Leadership Team at Chinook’s Edge officially welcomed Ryan Sawula to Chinook’s Edge. He officially started in his role as the division’s new Superintendent last week.

“I am excited to be officially a part of Chinook’s Edge,” says Sawula. “I appreciate the warm welcome.”
Sawula says he is looking forward to being out in schools in the next few weeks for a first visit.
“I hope to connect with our staff and schools this spring, and then again throughout the coming school year.”
The school division has 12 schools in neighbouring communities, including Olds, Mountain View County, Didsbury and Carstairs. Chinook's Edge has a total of 11,000 students across 40 Central Alberta schools.
