The Family Place saw an amazing turnout for their 30th anniversary celebration on Tuesday, where they offered up hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks, popcorn, and cupcakes for hundreds to enjoy. The grill was manned by volunteers from Vermillion Energy, with volunteers also on hand from Microtel Weyburn.
It was perfect weather for the families who brought their children to play entirely outdoors on the bouncy castles, games, and play equipment, with bubble-blowing, face and arm painting, and even a petting zoo.
The event also coincided with the second day of our 50/50 For Kids presented by Don's Plumbing and Heating, and six ticket books were sold at the event, with $2,400 being brought in for the jackpot in a three-hour span.
Executive Director Dawn Gutzke said they wanted to celebrate with the people of the community who has helped them grow over the years.
"The community has been such a huge part of who we are and where we are today,” she said.
She expressed her sentiments on being able to support families in Weyburn for three decades.
"To be able to serve our community, thousands of families and children over the years, what an accomplishment for our community."
The Family Place first opened in 1995 at 24 Fourth Street to quality support for families in Weyburn regardless of cultural, social, and economic lines. Shortly after opening on Fourth Street, they relocated to the Souris Valley Hospital, where they had a 20,000 square foot space. In 2005, they purchased their original location and moved back to Fourth Street. Starting to outgrow their space, The Family Place then purchased a new facility on McClelland Street. The grand opening of the new facility at 744 McLelland Street was on September 29th, 2023.
