Classic cars, roaring engines, and community spirit will all take centre stage on Saturday, June 14th from 12 to 4 p.m., as a fundraising car show takes over the green space at 400 Memorial Drive in Winkler. Hosted in support of the Peter George Dyck Villages, located on the second floor of the Buhler Active Living Centre, the show promises a vibrant mix of vintage vehicles, great music, and good old-fashioned fun.

A tribute to the late Peter George Dyck

The name change to the Peter George Dyck Villages was implemented to honor Dyck's legacy. Dyck served as the MLA for Pembina from 1995 to 2011, and his contributions to the community and the province are remembered fondly. The Villages provide care to residents who require assistance with daily activities, and the funds raised from the car show will support the second-floor care unit at the Buhler Active Living Centre.

Showcasing local enthusiasm

Local car enthusiast and organizer Bob "Chomper" Giesbrecht and car show participant and friend Malcolm Doney are eager to spend the afternoon with other like-minded people. Giesbrecht will display his 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air, a two-door classic that has been a favorite among car lovers. Doney will showcase his 1982 Chevrolet C10 lowrider truck, which he has owned for 25 years.

Doney shared, "This truck started as a work vehicle and gradually transformed into a lowrider with more power." He also mentioned a 1965 Falcon Futura and a 1966 Comet Pro Street car currently in restoration.

Giesbrecht expressed his admiration for the Bel Air's design, saying, "I’ve always wanted one because of the curves." He also noted that the vehicle has become a popular choice among other car enthusiasts.

Open to all vehicles

The event is inclusive, welcoming all types of vehicles—from classic cars to modern models, motorcycles, and even rat rods. Giesbrecht emphasized, "If you're proud of your ride, we’d love to see it." He added that the show aims to celebrate the community's passion for vehicles and support a worthy cause.

Attendees can enjoy music throughout the event, and grab a bite in the nearby restaurant. Additionally, there will be prizes and giveaways, thanks to generous local sponsors.
