Cochrane area athletes will be flooding Calgary's Foothills Athletics Park for the next two days to compete for provincial titles in a variety of disciplines at the ASAA high school provincial track and field championship.
Over 20 athletes from Cochrane, Bow Valley and St. Timothy's high schools are advancing after strong performances at both divisional and zone championships.

There are also six athletes representing Springbank Community High School.
Cochrane High continues to be a powerhouse in track and field disciplines, once again winning the Rocky View divisional and ASAA south central zone banners. It was their 46th consecutive divisional championship in Rocky View, dating back to 1984. Last year, they won their seventeenth provincial track title in 21 years.

Leading the charge for St. Timothy’s Thunder are Maeve Maguire and Jaden Van der Linde. Both punched their tickets to provincials with gold-medal performances at the Calgary Zone/City Championships on May 24. Maguire claimed the senior girls' shot put title with a personal-best throw of 9.44m on her final attempt, while Van der Linde soared 4.40m to take top spot in senior boys' pole vault.
Also from St, Timothy, Julian Jensen-Hook and Owen Harbour will be alternates for Calgary Zone, Julian placing fourth in the senior boys' 800m and 1500m, and Owen placing fourth in the intermediate boys' 3,000m at the city championships.
“This is the first time we’ve had multiple City Champions in the same year,” said Thunder coaches. “It’s been a breakthrough season.”
