Estevan police arrested a man for child assault and responded to a drug overdose on a day marked by several serious calls for service.

Estevan Police Service officers responded to several serious incidents on June 4, including a child assault, a suspected drug overdose and a public disturbance.

EPS received information from the Weyburn Police Service regarding multiple alleged assaults on a child. As a result, a 32-year-old Estevan man was arrested for assault. He was processed and later released with conditions, including having no contact with the child. Police are working with the Ministry of Social Services to ensure the child’s safety and provide appropriate support.

Police were called to assist Emergency Medical Services with a suspected drug overdose. Officers administered naloxone before EMS arrived. The man regained consciousness and was transported to hospital for further assessment and care.

An anonymous call was received from a man speaking incoherently and making claims about individuals being released from care. While insufficient information was provided for immediate follow-up, police have contacted care facilities in Estevan in an effort to identify the caller and assess the validity of his concerns. The matter remains under investigation.

Police received a report of threats being uttered. The victim was spoken to and the matter is still under investigation.

A report of a theft involving sporting equipment was received and remains under investigation.

Police responded to a disturbance near a local convenience store late in the day. Officers spoke with the individuals involved and determined that nothing criminal had occurred.

A report was received about an unwanted guest at a residence in the city’s north end. The person reportedly refused to leave when asked. The matter is under investigation.

Police were asked to check on the well-being of a woman whose family had been unable to reach her. Officers confirmed she was safe and well and would contact her family when ready.

Police also mediated a situation involving a 17-year-old girl who was locked out of her home after a dispute with a parent. Officers worked with Social Services to find a resolution for the evening, with further follow-up planned.

Officers attended a local bank where individuals had been found sleeping in the ATM vestibule. Those involved were spoken to and issued a warning about using private businesses for shelter.
