Many people will be trying to get out to enjoy the weather during what will be a cooler summer weekend, but Environment Canada is advising people that they may need to keep an eye on the forecast before they head out. The current call is for a thunderstorm to move through tomorrow, dumping big amounts through the later part of the day.

Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins takes a look at the system and what we can expect to see this weekend.

"We have a low-pressure system that's going to track through northern Saskatchewan, bringing lots of precipitation to the province in Estevan. Could see some showers and maybe even a thunderstorm along the cold front associated with that low-pressure system. So could see some precipitation a little later in the day Saturday, and then maybe another slight chance on Sunday."

Previous forecasts displayed that Sunday shower with a bit more certainty, but that's since shifted into sunnier weather. Desjardins explains that we're in an unstable system where the weather is set to change daily in the southeast.

"Sunday, there's less of a chance, and it's kind of right along the line in Estevan. So that could change, you know, maybe we'll see a pop go back into the forecast for Sunday. But of course, Saturday, there's a little bit better of a chance with that cold front coming through."

While it'll be called a cold front, temperatures will still stay pleasant, with those just slipping past the 20-degree mark on Sunday.

Desjardins says there's more coming with that system, which may not be as pleasant.

"We're going to see some instability come in. So a chance of showers and risks with thunderstorms with that cold front. But also, we will have winds shifting to the northwest and quite strong. So we're expecting winds to be 50 kilometres an hour with gusts to 70. So it'll be breezy out there."

Afterwards, temperatures look to rebound with sunnier skies next week, but Desjardins cautions people to keep an eye on the forecast as that could also shift.

"It looks like, at least for Estevan, you know, it may be a slight chance on Tuesday, but it's not big enough yet to be seen in the forecast. A few small chances during the week, but this is the biggest system on the weekend that we're seeing. Maybe later in the week, there's a low that we might get clipped in the southeastern portion of the province, Friday, I'm talking about."

Desjardins says she hopes to see plenty of rain come through northern Saskatchewan this weekend as wildfires continue to rage.
