On Friday, June 6th, GVC Student Council along with teacher Rhonda Kezema’s Business Management class organized the school’s annual Big Day celebration to wind up the school year.
Hosted on the school grounds, activities for the afternoon included face painting, a tug-of-war tournament, and a volleyball tournament. We spoke to Student Council co-presidents Jonas Gislason and Greg Pluschnik about the intricacies of planning events like these.
“Lots of meetings...class times and lunches that we planned a lot of rough draft ideas” shared Gislason. “...there were a lot of scrapped ideas to be honest. There was supposed to be a mechanical bull, but that didn’t work out” added Pluschnik.
Mechanical bull or not, Big Day was a smashing success and a great way to send off the school year. As Gislason put it: “Lots of school spirit, lots of hype, lots of cool events. It's great to see everyone out here.”
Looking forward, the graduating classes of both Garden Valley Collegiate and Northlands Parkway Collegiate will be honoured in the upcoming Grad Parade.
