The Pembina Threshermen’s Museum hosted their annual Heritage Days on June 6th and 7th , with great attendance and classroom field trips at the museum on Friday. With barrel train rides, a parade featuring vintage tractors, and activities everywhere the eye could see, the museum was bustling all through the morning.

A great learning opportunity

Teacher Candace Chiwandire brought her fifth grade class to the museum for a field trip, and while the students were enjoying the petting zoo and parade, the trip was just as educational as it was fun.

“In our grade five social studies curriculum, we study the fur trade and... the early settlers that came to Canada,” Chiwandire said. “This was kind of aligned with our curriculum, so we decided to come check it out.”

Built with a volunteer community

The Valley Harvest Maids are an integral part of the Heritage Days at the museum, with their volunteer efforts feeding visitors with hot dog lunches and an annual fish fry event. Today, they were focused on handing out over a thousand cookies to the classes coming through the museum.

Volunteer Elizabeth Wiebe has found the Valley Harvest Maids to be an excellent source of community: “I enjoy working with other people, and it’s a bunch of good friends that I work here with,” she said. “I’ve got to know a lot of friends”.
