The Boys and Girls Clubs (BGC) of Irricana will permanently shut down on June 25, after 15 years of service in the community, citing "extreme financial challenges" and low enrollment despite efforts to restructure.

The closure was announced in a June 3 social media post addressed to BGC Irricana families.

Other local BGC chapters include BGC Airdrie and BGC Cochrane and Area.

"After careful consideration, we must share the difficult news that our last day of programming and services in the Irricana community will be June 25, 2025," the statement said.

"As many of you are aware, significant funding changes were implemented this year—changes over which we had very little control," it read.

"In response, and in an effort to continue operating, we made the decision to license our facility."

The organization said licensing was intended to give families access to Alberta Government subsidies, with the hope it would "increase enrollment, and attract new families to our programs."

"Unfortunately, despite these efforts, enrollment has not improved and remains too low to sustain operations," the post stated.

The club said it had continued to operate "despite extreme financial challenges," with "a strong commitment to supporting the children and families currently enrolled through the end of the school year."

"This means we will not be operational during the summer months as well," the statement said.

BGC Irricana confirmed that "final camp enrollment numbers can not sustain program operations through summer."

The club said it has "a few remaining day camp spots in Airdrie that can be filled if acted upon quickly, and again, we express how difficult this is for all involved."

"We feel very lucky to have been able to meet all the children, youth, and families through the years," the statement read. "This decision is extremely difficult for our organization and will no doubt have an impact on your family too."

"We wish you all the best and thank you again for your continued support of our Club," the statement said.

Parents were directed to contact Program Manager Trina Evans or Program Director Cassandra Clem with questions about the closure.

The statement was signed: "The Board and Executive Director, BGC Airdrie."
