One of the most anticipated events of the summer is just three weeks out, as Airdrie gears up for a full day of parades, food, fireworks and community celebration on July 1.

According to the City of Airdrie, the Canada Day lineup could include up to 100 floats, multicultural showcases, sidewalk BBQs, and a 20-minute fireworks finale, with events running from morning through night across the city.

The City is encouraging residents to bike, walk, use transit or e-scooters, and to limit vehicle use where possible to ease congestion and reduce parking strain.

Parade kicks things off downtown

The day begins with the Canada Day Parade, scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon in downtown Airdrie.

According to the City, the event is expected to feature up to 100 floats and attract as many as 30,000 spectators. The parade dates back to 1967, when it was first organized by the Airdrie Pro Rodeo committee. Airdrie Parades, a non-profit group, now runs it.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and refreshments, and to dress in red and white.

Local business celebration and BBQs

Downtown activities begin at 9 a.m., with shops and community groups hosting sidewalk activations, including BBQs, deals, and family-friendly programming, according to the City.

An interactive map will help residents locate participating businesses and food vendors. Posters with QR codes will be placed downtown ahead of the event. The digital map will be published closer to July 1.

Downtown businesses can still sign up to be included in the map and receive marketing materials through the city’s Canada Day campaign.

CultureFest brings the world to Nose Creek Park

From 1 to 6 p.m., Airdrie CultureFest will take over Nose Creek Regional Park, offering a multicultural celebration with live music, cultural activities, food trucks, and beer gardens.

Hosted by the Airdrie CultureFest Committee, this is the city’s first multicultural community festival, designed to highlight and connect residents from all backgrounds.

The park will feature zones inspired by Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America, with themed experiences, performances, and food options. Residents are encouraged to bring a flag to celebrate the city’s diversity.

Airdrie Pro Rodeo rides through the weekend

Canada Day will also mark the final day of the Airdrie Pro Rodeo, which runs from June 27 to July 1 at the Airdrie Rodeo Grounds.

Organized by the Airdrie Rodeo Ranch Association, the event is run entirely by volunteers and features a full slate of rodeo events celebrating the city’s rural history and western roots.

Fireworks finale at Chinook Winds

The City of Airdrie will close out the celebrations with a 20-minute fireworks display at Chinook Winds Regional Park, scheduled from 10:45 to 11:05 p.m.

Spectators are advised to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks, and are encouraged to arrive early to secure parking. Designated lots include:

  • Rocky View Schools

  • W.H. Croxford High School

  • Chinook Winds Regional Park

Vantage point locations include:

  • Windsong School

  • Coopers Crossing School

  • Living Springs Church

  • Daybreak Church

Plan your route: walk, roll, or ride

The City is asking residents to plan ahead and choose active or shared transportation where possible. Options include:

  • Walking and biking on Airdrie’s pathway network

  • E-scooter access for riders aged 16 and up (helmets recommended)

  • Carpooling or ride-sharing with friends and neighbours
